Tickets & vouchers overview
The module is Tickets & vouchers: digital monetary vouchers with QR redemption, gift vouchers with scheduled delivery — and purchasable tickets for events and set menus.
Onboard vouchers are 100% digital: no card in the mail, no paper to track, no third-party reseller taking a cut. Guests buy through the app or the restaurant’s voucher page; the team redeems by scanning a QR code. Tickets add a second sellable form — allotments for events and special nights.
Three sellable forms
A voucher worth a fixed amount of money. Can be partially redeemed across visits — the remaining balance updates on the same QR code.
A voucher for a specific experience (e.g. a seven-course menu for two). Redeemed in full, by a single reservation.
A sellable allotment with a price, optional capacity and validity window — e.g. a wine night or New Year’s Eve menu. Redeemable once. Details in Selling tickets.
Lifecycle
A voucher is issued when created (manually by staff or via Stripe checkout), becomes active on payment, can be partially redeemed any number of times for monetary vouchers, and ends as fully redeemed, expired or refunded. Expired vouchers deactivate automatically.
Selling via Stripe
Online sales run as Stripe guest checkout — buyers need no Onboard account. After successful payment the voucher or ticket is delivered by email automatically; failed payments issue nothing. In the guest app, purchases also appear under "My vouchers & tickets".
QR codes
Every voucher and ticket carries a unique QR code encoding a signed token — not the raw ID. Photographed codes cannot be turned into someone else’s voucher, and partial redemption rotates the token so the old code cannot be replayed. Vouchers can also live as Apple Wallet passes — see Wallet passes.
Expiry
Expiry is optional and configurable per voucher. German law allows a default of three years from the end of the year of issue; Onboard uses this as the default, and you can shorten it for promotional vouchers.
